PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE

The Paracas National Reserve (RNP) is located in the province of Pisco, department of Ica, 250 km south of Lima. It was created in 1975 to conserve a representative sample of the marine ecosystems of the Humboldt Current and the Peruvian desert, giving protection to the many species of flora and fauna of the region, and preserving the habitats used by a wide variety of migratory species for food and shelter during their long annual trips.

The RNP is home to a great biological diversity, especially in the marine-coastal area, including 216 bird species, 36 species of mammals, 10 reptiles, 168 fish species, and a huge number of invertebrates that form the lower rungs of the trophic chain at this important place.
